The service

One wall. A completely different room.

A feature wall creates a focal point: behind a bed, around a fireplace, along a dining room or in a hallway. Instead of flat paint, it uses a decorative finish with texture, depth or shimmer that draws the eye and sets the mood for the whole space.

Allan offers a range of finishes for feature walls: authentic Venetian plaster (including black Vesuvio with gold accents), breathable limewash, joint-free microcement and Italian metallic paints such as Copper Sharki / Eastern Wind.

Allan Anderson owns the business and applies every finish himself, so you get one consistent hand from the first coat to the last.

Who it's for

Homeowners wanting a statement room, and bars, salons, hotels and offices wanting a memorable interior.

When it's needed

When a room feels flat, you've redecorated but something's missing, or a commercial space needs character.

Why use a specialist

Decorative finishes are technique-led. The difference between luxury and patchy comes down to hand skill.

What it costs to wait

Without a focal point, rooms feel unfinished

Rooms with no focal point often feel bland no matter how well furnished. Quick fixes like wallpaper or DIY effect paint rarely deliver the same impact.

Bland interiors

Flat, uniform walls make rooms feel generic and forgettable.

DIY effects that disappoint

Technique-led finishes look streaky and uneven without experience.

Repeated redecorating

Trend wallpapers date quickly and need replacing.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • × Choosing a finish from photos rather than samples in your room.
  • × Picking the wrong wall: the focal point should be where the eye naturally lands.
  • × Ignoring lighting, which changes how textured and metallic finishes look.
  • × Over-decorating with feature finishes on every wall.
  • × Applying a finish to a poorly prepared wall.

In detail

Feature wall finishes explained

The finishes available, how they differ, and where each works best across Glasgow and West and Central Scotland.

Venetian plaster

Hand-trowelled and burnished for depth and sheen. Black Vesuvio with gold accents creates real drama; softer tones bring calm elegance. See our Venetian plaster page.

Limewash

Breathable, brushed in layers, with a soft cloud-like texture. Ideal for calm bedrooms and period homes. See our limewash paint page.

Microcement

A joint-free, architectural concrete look that also works in wet areas. Ideal for minimalist interiors and bathroom feature walls.

Italian metallic paints

Metallic and decorative effects including Copper Sharki / Eastern Wind, which shimmer and shift with the light. See our Italian designer paints page.

Homes and commercial spaces

In homes, feature walls work behind beds, around fireplaces and in hallways across Glasgow, Bearsden, Giffnock and East Kilbride. In bars, restaurants, salons and receptions, they create a backdrop customers remember and photograph.

Choosing the right wall

The best feature wall is usually the one your eye lands on first when you walk in: the wall behind a bed, the chimney breast in a living room, the end wall of a hallway or the back wall of a restaurant. Finishing that one surface well creates more impact than covering several walls with a weaker finish.

Light is the other deciding factor. Textured finishes such as Venetian plaster and limewash come alive with light falling across them from the side, while metallic paints respond to spotlights and lamps. Allan considers both at the consultation, then holds samples in position so you can judge the result before you commit.

Working with Glasgow Microcement

What to expectfrom first call to handover

Glasgow Microcement LTD is owned and run by Allan Anderson, a specialist applicator of decorative finishes. There is no sales team and no subcontracting of the finish itself: the person who visits your property, measures up and talks through samples is the same person who applies your decorative feature walls finish.

Allan is a fully approved Cimentart microcement applicator and a fully approved Infinity Effects spray granite applicator. Approval means the materials are applied the way the manufacturer intends: preparation, layering and protection all follow the system rather than shortcuts.

When a project needs more than a finish, such as a new shower, a moved sink, trimmed doors or boxed-in pipework, Allan ties in directly with trusted plumbers and joiners. You get one point of contact who plans the order of work, so trades are not left waiting on each other and nothing falls between the gaps.

Free, no-obligation site visit

Allan comes to your home or premises, checks the existing surfaces and explains honestly what is and is not suitable before any quote is agreed.

Physical sample boards

Colours and textures look different under Scottish daylight and your own lighting. Samples let you see and touch the finish where it will actually live.

A clear written quote

Every project is priced individually after the visit, so you know exactly what is included before you commit. No guide prices are given without seeing the job.

£3 million public liability insurance

Work is carried out with £3M public liability cover in place, for homes and commercial properties alike.

Planned working hours

Monday to Friday 7:30am–5pm and Saturday 8am–12pm. This is planned, booked work rather than an emergency call-out service.
