The service

A finish paint can't copy

Venetian plaster is a traditional decorative finish applied by hand in thin layers with a steel trowel, then burnished to create depth, movement and a soft sheen. Unlike paint, which sits flat on a wall, Venetian plaster has layers you can see into, giving it the look of polished marble or stone.

Allan applies bespoke Venetian plaster finishes for homes and businesses, including dramatic finishes such as black Vesuvio Venetian plaster with gold accents. Each wall is unique, because the finish is built by hand.

Allan Anderson owns the business and applies every finish himself, from the first coat to the final burnish.

Who it's for

Homeowners wanting a statement living room, hallway or bedroom wall, and hospitality or retail spaces wanting a luxurious feel.

When it's needed

When a room feels flat, a feature wall needs to stand out, or a space needs to feel more premium for guests or customers.

Why use a specialist

Venetian plaster is a craft. Trowel technique, layering and burnishing decide whether it looks like marble or a mess.

What it costs to wait

Flat walls make premium rooms feel ordinary

You can spend heavily on furniture and lighting, but if the walls are flat paint, the room never quite feels finished. Cheap imitation finishes often make it worse.

Rooms that lack character

Without texture or depth, even well-furnished rooms can feel bland and forgettable.

Imitation finishes that disappoint

Paint-effect kits and untrained application can look streaky, patchy and obviously fake.

Wasted spend on décor

Expensive furniture and lighting lose impact against a plain or poorly finished backdrop.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • × Choosing a finish from photos online rather than physical samples.
  • × Trying a DIY Venetian plaster kit on a large or prominent wall.
  • × Not considering how light hits the wall at different times of day.
  • × Applying over poorly prepared walls, which shows through the finish.
  • × Overusing the finish on every wall instead of creating a focal point.

In detail

Venetian plaster in detail

The finishes, methods and settings for Venetian plaster in homes and commercial spaces across Glasgow and West and Central Scotland.

Finishes available

Venetian plaster can be soft and subtle, warm creams and stone greys with a gentle sheen, or bold and dramatic. One standout example is black Vesuvio Venetian plaster with gold accents, a deep, moody finish with metallic veining that brings real drama to a living room, bar or reception area.

Sheen level can range from a soft, matt-like finish to a higher polish, depending on how the plaster is burnished.

How it's applied

Walls are prepared so the surface is sound and smooth. Plaster is then applied in thin layers with a steel trowel, with each layer building depth. The final stage is burnishing, where pressure from the trowel compresses the surface to create the characteristic sheen and movement.

Where it works best

Venetian plaster is ideal for feature walls in living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, stairwells and bedrooms, and for behind-bed walls, fireplaces and alcoves. See our decorative feature walls page for more ideas.

Residential and commercial

In homes across Glasgow's West End, Bearsden, Newton Mearns and Giffnock, Venetian plaster is often used to create a focal wall. In restaurants, bars, salons, hotels and offices, it adds a luxurious, crafted feel that customers notice. Commercial work is planned around your opening hours at the consultation.

Working with Glasgow Microcement

What to expectfrom first call to handover

Glasgow Microcement LTD is owned and run by Allan Anderson, a specialist applicator of decorative finishes. There is no sales team and no subcontracting of the finish itself: the person who visits your property, measures up and talks through samples is the same person who applies your venetian plaster finish.

Allan is a fully approved Cimentart microcement applicator and a fully approved Infinity Effects spray granite applicator. Approval means the materials are applied the way the manufacturer intends: preparation, layering and protection all follow the system rather than shortcuts.

When a project needs more than a finish, such as a new shower, a moved sink, trimmed doors or boxed-in pipework, Allan ties in directly with trusted plumbers and joiners. You get one point of contact who plans the order of work, so trades are not left waiting on each other and nothing falls between the gaps.

Free, no-obligation site visit

Allan comes to your home or premises, checks the existing surfaces and explains honestly what is and is not suitable before any quote is agreed.

Physical sample boards
