The service

The hardest-working surfaces, made joint-free

Worktops and splashbacks take more daily punishment than almost any other surface in a home. Microcement gives them a smooth, joint-free finish that's simple to wipe down and has the solid, sculptural look of poured concrete.

Because Allan's microcement can be applied over almost any sound existing surface, including existing tiles, splashbacks can often be transformed without stripping tiles off the wall. Worktops and islands can be clad for a solid look.

Allan Anderson owns the business and does every installation himself, tying in with trusted joiners and plumbers when units, sinks or taps need attention.

Who it's for

Homeowners updating kitchens, utility rooms and bathroom vanities, and cafés or bars with counters that need a premium finish.

When it's needed

When splashback grout is stained, tiles are dated, or worktops are worn but the units underneath are fine.

Why use a specialist

Worktops face food, water and heat. Correct preparation and sealing determine how well the surface performs.

What it costs to wait

Stained grout and worn worktops never improve

Grease and food stains soak into grout. Laminate and worn worktops chip and lift. Left alone, they make a kitchen feel dirty even when it's clean.

Grout you can't clean

Splashback grout discolours from cooking residue and rarely returns to its original colour.

Full kitchen replacement

Tired surfaces often push people into replacing a whole kitchen when the units are still sound.

Hygiene concerns

Cracks, joints and lifting edges trap moisture and crumbs.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • × Replacing a full kitchen when only the surfaces need changing.
  • × Tiling over tiles, which adds thickness and more grout.
  • × Not discussing heat and cleaning products for worktop use.
  • × Choosing a colour without seeing it next to your cabinet doors.
  • × Skipping the sealing stage on food preparation surfaces.

In detail

Worktops and splashbacks in detail

Materials, methods and uses for microcement worktops and splashbacks across Glasgow and West and Central Scotland.

Splashbacks over existing tiles

Most splashbacks are tiled. If the tiles are firmly bonded, microcement can usually go straight over them. Grout lines are filled during preparation so the finished surface is smooth and continuous.

Worktops and islands

Microcement can be applied to suitable worktop substrates and island cladding, creating a solid, monolithic look. Edges and corners are finished by hand. Suitability of your existing worktops is assessed at the site visit.

The Cimentart system

Allan is a fully approved Cimentart applicator, using primer, base layers, finishing layers and a protective sealer. On worktops, sealing is particularly important for resistance to everyday spills.

Bathrooms and utility rooms

The same approach works for bathroom vanity tops, basin surrounds and utility room counters, giving the whole home a consistent finish. See our microcement bathrooms and kitchens pages.

Commercial counters

Café counters, bar fronts and reception desks benefit from microcement's joint-free, premium look. Usage and cleaning routines are discussed so the finish suits the space.

Planning around your kitchen

Because splashbacks and worktops sit at the centre of the kitchen, Allan plans the work so you are without the room for as little time as possible. Where sinks, hobs or taps need disconnecting or refitting, he coordinates trusted plumbers so the surfaces can be finished properly behind and around them, rather than worked around awkwardly.

Colour is usually chosen to tie the room together: a splashback that matches the worktop for a monolithic look, or a contrasting tone that frames the units. Holding physical sample boards against your cabinet doors and floor is the quickest way to see which approach suits your kitchen.

Working with Glasgow Microcement

What to expectfrom first call to handover

Glasgow Microcement LTD is owned and run by Allan Anderson, a specialist applicator of decorative finishes. There is no sales team and no subcontracting of the finish itself: the person who visits your property, measures up and talks through samples is the same person who applies your worktops & splashbacks finish.

Allan is a fully approved Cimentart microcement applicator and a fully approved Infinity Effects spray granite applicator. Approval means the materials are applied the way the manufacturer intends: preparation, layering and protection all follow the system rather than shortcuts.

When a project needs more than a finish, such as a new shower, a moved sink, trimmed doors or boxed-in pipework, Allan ties in directly with trusted plumbers and joiners. You get one point of contact who plans the order of work, so trades are not left waiting on each other and nothing falls between the gaps.

Free, no-obligation site visit

Allan comes to your home or premises, checks the existing surfaces and explains honestly what is and is not suitable before any quote is agreed.

Physical sample boards

Colours and textures look different under Scottish daylight and your own lighting. Samples let you see and touch the finish where it will actually live.

A clear written quote

Every project is priced individually after the visit, so you know exactly what is included before you commit. No guide prices are given without seeing the job.

£3 million public liability insurance

Work is carried out with £3M public liability cover in place, for homes and commercial properties alike.

Planned working hours
