The service
Microcement is a thin, hand-applied cement-based coating that is built up in layers and sealed. In a kitchen, it can run across the floor, up the walls, along the splashback and over worktops and islands, creating the clean, joint-free look you see in architectural homes.
Because Allan's microcement can be applied over almost any sound existing surface, including existing tiles, you can often refresh a kitchen without tearing out every surface first. That means less dust in the heart of your home and less time eating takeaways while the work is done.
Allan Anderson owns the business and carries out every installation himself. If your kitchen project also needs units moved, worktops removed or plumbing changed, he ties in with trusted joiners and plumbers so everything happens in the right order.
Homeowners refreshing or renovating a kitchen, open-plan extensions, and cafés or restaurants needing durable, wipe-clean surfaces.
When splashback tiles are dated, worktops look tired, a new extension needs a continuous floor, or you want a modern look without a full rebuild.
Kitchens see heat, spills and heavy use. Correct preparation, layering and sealing by an approved applicator is what keeps the surface performing.
What it costs to wait
The kitchen is the most-used room in most homes. Grubby grout, chipped tiles and worn worktops make it harder to keep clean and make the whole home feel older than it is.
Splashback and floor grout absorb grease and food stains. Once discoloured, it rarely comes back no matter how much you scrub.
Leaving a tired kitchen too long often pushes people into a full replacement, when a surface refresh could have transformed it.
Mismatched floors between kitchen and living areas make an extension feel disjointed instead of one generous space.

In detail
From splashbacks to open-plan floors, here's how microcement is used in kitchens across Glasgow and West and Central Scotland.
A microcement floor runs without joints from kitchen to dining and living areas, which makes open-plan rooms and extensions feel larger. Because the coating is thin, it can help avoid awkward level changes between rooms. See our microcement floors page for more detail.
Splashbacks are where microcement often makes the biggest difference. It can go over existing sound tiles, removing grout lines in the area that gets the most splashes. The result is a clean surface that's simple to wipe down.
Walls can be finished in the same colour as the floor for a minimal look, or in a contrasting tone to frame the units.
Microcement worktops and island cladding give a solid, sculptural look. Worktops need extra attention to sealing because of food, heat and cleaning. Allan explains care and use at the consultation. Our worktops and splashbacks page covers this in more depth.
As a fully approved Cimentart applicator, Allan uses the manufacturer's full system: preparation, primer, base layers, finishing layers and sealer. Each part plays a role in how the finish bonds, wears and resists everyday kitchen use.
In homes, microcement suits everything from compact Glasgow flats to large extensions in Newton Mearns, Bearsden and Stirling. In cafés, bars and restaurants, joint-free surfaces help with cleaning routines and give front-of-house areas a premium finish.
Commercial use is discussed at the site visit so the finish suits the traffic and cleaning regime of the space.
Working with Glasgow Microcement
Glasgow Microcement LTD is owned and run by Allan Anderson, a specialist applicator of decorative finishes. There is no sales team and no subcontracting of the finish itself: the person who visits your property, measures up and talks through samples is the same person who applies your microcement kitchens finish.
Allan is a fully approved Cimentart microcement applicator and a fully approved Infinity Effects spray granite applicator. Approval means the materials are applied the way the manufacturer intends: preparation, layering and protection all follow the system rather than shortcuts.
When a project needs more than a finish, such as a new shower, a moved sink, trimmed doors or boxed-in pipework, Allan ties in directly with trusted plumbers and joiners. You get one point of contact who plans the order of work, so trades are not left waiting on each other and nothing falls between the gaps.
Allan comes to your home or premises, checks the existing surfaces and explains honestly what is and is not suitable before any quote is agreed.
Colours and textures look different under Scottish daylight and your own lighting. Samples let you see and touch the finish where it will actually live.
Every project is priced individually after the visit, so you know exactly what is included before you commit. No guide prices are given without seeing the job.
Work is carried out with £3M public liability cover in place, for homes and commercial properties alike.
Monday to Friday 7:30am–5pm and Saturday 8am–12pm. This is planned, booked work rather than an emergency call-out service.
Based in Glasgow and covering Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, East Kilbride, Ayrshire, Paisley, Stirling and the towns in between.
Questions
Each kitchen is priced after the free site visit, depending on which surfaces are covered and their condition. You'll get a written quote before work begins.
Yes. Allan's microcement can be applied over almost any sound existing surface, including tiles. He checks suitability at the site visit.
It depends on the surfaces involved and the room size, as microcement is applied in layers with drying time between them. You'll get a realistic timeline at the consultation.
Heat and day-to-day use are discussed at the consultation, along with how to care for the sealed surface. Using trivets is generally good practice for any finished worktop.
Guarantee details for microcement are confirmed with you at the consultation. Spray granite carries a 10-year guarantee.
Lifespan depends on preparation, application, sealing and aftercare. The approved Cimentart system and correct care help it perform for years.
Not always. It depends on which surfaces are being finished. Where joinery is needed, Allan ties in with trusted joiners.
